Here is a page of Lucy's growth every week! She has been such the needed blessing for our family, even during these crazy times! I hope you enjoy!
Welcome Lucy!!!
Born April 20th 2020
Her mama's name is Daizi (pronounced Daisy).
These are Lucy's parents, Daizi of course on the back left, and Parker on the right! Big dog!
Lucy at 5 weeks old (4 weeks and 6 days to be exact)! We got to visit and pick her out from two different female dogs. We were female pick #3. Lucy basically chose us, she leaped into our arms literally and tried to show off for us. Which was not typical of her behavior the dog breeder said. She was trying to tell us she was the one!
The day we picked Lucy up, Sunday June 7th 2020!
Lucy is such a joy to our family!!! We got her at 6 weeks 6 days, on June 7th 2020! She is adjusting quite well to her new environment and is sleeping through the night! We taught her how to sit in a day! I took a week off of work to be with her during the day with Cody.
Our first time leaving her for any length of time. She stayed with grandma and did GREAT! I was furloughed (paid furlough) this week while Cody went back to work "part time". I stayed with Lucy every day all day and it was just me and her for half the day while Cody was at work! This week she is fully adjusted to her new environment and has understood that there is an upstairs now lol.
She has found her napping chair! 9 weeks Lucy continues to get brave in the yard and house and has explored her physical boundaries. She also realized there was an upstairs in our house. This week is Lucy's first time home alone while we are both at work. Cody is working "part time" right now so he comes home after lunch to be with her and I get home at 5:30. She stays in her cage inside from 9:00am-2:00pm then Cody comes back home.
10 weeks She is officially potty trained! I don't know how we did it or if honestly she really knows how to tell us she has to go potty, but we did it! I think right now we are just really attentive. We go outside a lot and look for her usual sniffing ques. Lucy has stopped trying to nose dive off of the retaining wall! We can let her safely off leash in the backyard and she explores more parts of the upper yards and understands there is a drop off below.
11 weeks she has FINALLY left the rug alone. She also had her first off leash experience for 30 minutes in the front yard and did fantastic. She is SUPER attached to me which I secretly LOVE! She is more vocal and "talks" to us more when we talk back.
12 weeks Lucy has mastered some advanced tricks. She now has mastered how to get on her mat on command, to learn how to balance something on her nose, leave it command, and after having her first accident in the house after a month, I looked at her and in a serious tone and said, did you do that? And she cowered away. When I wiped it away with a paper towel she didn't chase it like crazy like she always does because she knows she's in trouble. She is interested in her speaking buttons, she sniffs them. And If you gently say no, she stops whatever she's doing. She now drops when told! She has also stopped biting Cody so much purposely.
Week 13 She met 3 doggie friends! She warms up nice to gentle dogs and is hesitant with hyper dogs. With aggressive dogs she barks and charges back which surprises me. I didn't know Golden's did that. She has started chewing toys to destroy and digging now unfortunately. Lucy fetches perfectly and drops the toy 100% on command. Lucy realizes when I go upstairs she won't see me for a while and gets really upset when I hop the fence. Lucy has also lost a lot of her "fluff" this week and is leaning out. It breaks my mama heart to see her growing up so fast! Just like my nephew says, I don't want her to grow up!!!
14 weeks Lucy has really turned a corner intellectually this week, she understands the things we say, and she intuitively figures things out. When I stood Lucy, let's go potty, she ran to the back door and looked at the handle and whined and looked at me. She knows what we are saying! When I look at her and say wanna go inside or wheres daddy or want a treat, let's go on a walk, she doesn't know the vocabulary yet, but she knows i'm talking to her and i'm saying something important to her. When she grabbed my bottle lid, I panicked and said drop it! I kid you not, she dropped it right on the carpet for me. She is starting to walk nicely on the leash not pulling us so badly or choking herself. She is doing fantastic off leash and doesn't run away. We are so proud of her. She is starting to use her speak buttons more and understand what they are. 15 week Sweet sweet Lucy Cove! She is growing like a weed and is always hungry! Her manners are getting better by the day as she doesn't try to eat the rug, chew on things she shouldn't, jump up on you, bite your clothes, bite you, get on the couch or any of that! This week was the first week we left her outside alone for 1/2 a day and then a full day! We had no choice due to work schedules and were so worried about the heat. She did fantastic and didn't skip a beat. Now since Cody's football has started Lucy and I have a lot more time together. Cody gets home at 8:00-8:30pm and before this he would get home at lunch to play with Lucy (for the last month). So when I get home, she is WOUND UP. We use our automatic food dispenser outside and she gets unlimited water and pee access through her doggie door in the garage to outside in the fenced in yard! Perfect set up! We are looking forward to letting her roam the house at night downstairs outside of her cage and eventually letting her roam the house all day. This week she also put two and two together and learned what her speaking buttons really do. So now she pushes the one for outside when she has to go potty. I've never been so proud! Victory! Lucy also likes me to chase her with her toy now. I have been patiently waiting for that. Now I want her to chase me without taking me down. Literally. It's also official. Lucy gets car sick. This makes me so sad.
Week 16 Lucy lost her front two teeth! It looks so funny and her adult teeth are growing in already! Lucy is using her buttons more to communicate with us to go outside and I am LOVING it! She begs to go upstairs even though she's only accidentally gone upstairs twice. She is more physically dominant now, marking her territory. She had her last booster shots but still can't go into public for another 2 weeks until she builds immunity for the parvo vaccine. Lucy is also losing the little white streak of fur on the top of her head and it makes me so sad, she's growing up. Each one of her siblings had this and they all start disappearing around this time.
At 17 weeks she is actually getting her face wet now in the kiddie pool and love rolling around in the water. She lays in it and cools off. She now officially loves being outside and begs to go out but as long as you go out with her. I can't wait to take her outside to the dog park to meet friends in a week! We got Lucy a frisbee and she doesn't quite know what to do with it but she loves chasing it! She had another accident inside. This happens about once a week. I'm not sure what to do because she knows it's wrong. It always happens an hour after she has already peed outside. She can go comfortably 6-10 hours holding it (but we of course take her out about every 2-3 hours just in case). It's just frustrating. Oh and also Lucy loves AirBud and barks back to him on tv!
At 18 weeks Lucy gets to FINALLY go to public spaces and dog parks and not worry about parvo and distemper dangers! So naturally, we immediately took her to her first dog park experience the second the 2 week mark hit for the public spaces green light. The huge dog park was empty but we brought the frisbee and still had a blast! Also, I took her to the Greenway on her first public walk! She LOVED it! Lucy also made her first sentence with the dog buttons! She said, Lucy, then Outside! Just like I do! It's not just simple needs, it's actual thoughts! I'm so excited at our progress! She is such a smart dog!!
19 weeks: Sweet Lucy girl has lost a total of 8 baby teeth now! She is growing up so fast! She is LOVING the dog park, walks on the trail, and playing with mama! I have made an effort to take her on more walks around the neighborhood lately, so we normally go at night when it is cooler and so that no one stops us to talk LOL! I am selfish and I like time with just me and my Lucy girl with no interruptions. We got a little bit of sad news this week that Lucy's sister from this exact same litter has a serious eye disease and will be needing surgery. Of course the mama bear in me freaked out and I keep asking Lucy if she is ok and she can see ha. She seems fine but I'm going to reach out to her sisters owner to find out more details to look out for and I'll mention it to our vet so we can be on the lookout. It has definitely shaken the whole litter's families. Prayers for Cookie (Lucy's sister)! By the way, Lucy's other siblings from this litter are two other sweet girls named Zuzu and Phyllis, and four brothers: Scout, Gus, Murphy, and Charlie. From the litter before her (and only other litter currently) there were 5 boys and one sweet girl named Bella. We got so lucky to have Lucy!
20 weeks: This week we have seen another cognitive leap for Lucy. She doesn't fall for my throwing a treat into the garage and me closing the door behind her locking her out so I can go to work. She now sits there knowing what I'm going to do and would actually rather not have a treat and be inside with me for the day. So that is difficult on me. Also she knows when I'm upstairs in my room doing work and hiding. She hears me and barks until I come down. So that's fun lol! Lucy is starting to lose her molars! She is growing up so fast!
21 weeks: This week I broke my foot chasing sweet girl around the couch. I stubbed my last three toes on my right foot and broke the middle one of the three (fourth toe). I was EXTREMELY discouraged. I had a week of non weight bearing and taking care of baby girl was so hard. All she wanted to do was play and go on walks and I could do ZERO of it. I was so sad. Plus I had just recovered from my serious miscarriage and it's surgery just a month and a half prior. I can't catch a break. Lucy knew immediately that something was wrong with my toe when it was hurt. She kept sniffing it and laying on my lap. So this has happened at a really good point so far with her development because thank God, she has been able to entertain herself for 15 minutes at a time every now and then and that is a saving grace. Before now, she needed your attention literally 24/7. What a blessing and perfect timing. Also, I *think* Lucy lost the last of her baby teeth. I found 2 molars on the ground the other day and her gums looked very irritated. She didn't eat for about 2 days because her mouth was so sore.
22 weeks: A lot of family came in and helped me out when I was still in the depths of my foot injury so Lucy was introduced to around 20 different family members and a bunch at one time. It was great exposure especially with my dad and Tonya staying with us for 5 days, Gigi and Granddad 2 days, and my mom one. Plus the UT game adventure and having lots of cousins visit. Lucy did great. She still jumps constantly on people despite being spanked and gets up on the counter (even though she has just stopped doing that for when just Cody and I are in the house). Another thing is because of her age and the weather being much cooler, Lucy has been liking outside a lot more and when she is outside and you are inside working or cooking, she doesn't bark non stop until you let her in. We used to have to tip toe around to avoid her hearing us. Now we don't have to do that thank the Lord. Especially since my dad, Tonya, and I were working from home and if she was still doing her normal thing, she would have really bothered us trying to get in constantly especially since we couldn't really be very quiet with so many people. Lucy also experienced her first dog park encounter with other dogs. Morgan and Edgar met us there with Georgie, Dallas, and Maya. Lucy did the best with Maya but was SO scared with all of the dogs even though we introduced them one by one. Lucy is very skittish.
23 weeks: I added 4 new speak buttons to her collection, mama, daddy, yes, and no. She has taken to them well. When I say no treat, Lucy and mama, outside instead, she will reply with no LOL! Also I think she has finished losing all of her baby teeth! Everything is so accelerated with dogs vs humans/babies.
24 weeks: This week Lucy girl got spayed and her fur mama is a mess. I have been so worried for her and her recovery. It has been a struggle to adequately take care of her with my broken foot AND keep her still for 2-6 weeks. Especially the first 2 days and 2 weeks. Bad timing but it is what it is. The second day of her recovery I fell down the porch steps and hurt my broken toe trying to pick Lucy up to go down the stairs because of her incision and of course because it was raining. Why else would it not be raining. Cody has Fall break this week so he will be with her at home for half of a day to help watch her. I'm taking off Monday to watch baby girl and help her adapt. She has adjusted well especially since switching to a better cone. Check out my previous blog post for more surgery and recovery details for Lucy.
25 weeks: Lucy girl had some complication with her incision and had to be seen by the vet twice and is on 2 weeks of antibiotics. She had a rupture of a blood vessel (nothing we did) that a pocket of blood formed between her internal and external sutures. She's ok now but it is super tough trying to restrict her activities. But not to jinx ourselves, I think we are on the up and up now! During this week of Fall break for Cody, we keep Lucy inside roaming free for half of the day and she has officially lost those privileges. She did so great Monday through Thursday, but on Friday she tore up our cabinets in the kitchen. I was so mad at her. But you can't spank her because she is fragile right now. Sigh.
26 weeks: Lucy is out of the woods, her healing is near perfect and she is ready to go! This week Lucy got to experience her first Fall, and her first pumpkin! I'd have to say she loved it! Lucy is getting really really rambunctious and I'm wondering if this is the rebellion stage?
27 weeks: Sweet Lucy girl is doing wonderful! We have upped her walking schedule as she is recovered from surgery now and we can resume playing frisbee and run/jogging because let's be real. She walks me, not the other way around LOL! Lucy has started climbing on the tops of the couches and picking her favorite things out of the trash cans to munch on. She also has been enjoying wasps, and spiders 😬.
28 weeks: This week we decorated for Christmas and Lucy was ALL about that :). She loved helping me 6 hours straight, putting the Fall decor away and arranging the Christmas decor. I would give Lucy something to take places and she would mostly do it! She didn't want to give it up but that's ok. Lucy loves taking little nibbles on the lower hanging ornaments but for the most part does a fantastic job leaving them and everything else alone. I only lost one polar bear but that's ok, I kind of just let it happen. She was so happy. Lucy did fantastic her first Halloween and stayed in the living room with my mom. Cody and I sat outside the door to not bother Lucy with charging the doorbell. Also we took Lucy on her first true adventure! We went to Red Clay state park looking at all of the cabins built and walked the nature trails. She loved it minus the car vomiting. Lucy actually lost weight this week and the last but that is normal with the 28 day does antibiotics she was on.
29 weeks: This week Lucy is getting into her rebellious teenage times and has really tried our patience and tested her ability or fake inability to perform simple tasks we ask of her. It takes everything in our power not to lose our temper with her but rather be extra diligent to not let up on her. She has also made the most progress when we push back. She knows how to roll over apparently. We have lightly taught her but I told her to do it with no prompting or hand guesters and she did it like she has for years or something. This whole time she was playing with us acting like she didn't know what the heck we were asking of her. Sneaky dog. She is unlocking her true potential with some gentle prodding lol. So I will continue on and train harder because her potential is limitless. I will be taking out more buttons for Lucy to learn because simply, she is capable.
30 weeks: Lucy girl continues to test our patience but also improve on walks! She is listening to my commands, not pulling, running in the street or lunging at other dogs! We even got to try some off leash training in a secluded area and she did fantastic! I'm so proud of her! We also have been going on a walk every day for the past 2 weeks. I notice a significant improvement in her behavior after daily walks and we both just love exploring together! She has finally gotten used to the tree and all of the decorations! She also got her stocking this week! We are all set for the Holidays!
31 weeks: Sweet Lucy girl is officially 6 weeks post spaying surgery and I am 10 weeks post bone break. So we are both 100% cleared with no restrictions to live life and not hold back in fear of injury or furthering our injury. It's interesting we both were broken at the same time and healed together. It has been a LONG 10 weeks. So we are going back to our weekly dog parks, jogs, runs, meeting other dogs, and etc. Yay to me and Lucy!!
32 weeks: Lucy girl is just moving and cruising. We are having trouble wearing her down and I don't know if it's because 6 hours straight of constant running around an playing after work isn't enough or because she has had a slight upset stomach for 2.5 weeks. But she is unhappy almost constantly with whining, crying and barking at us and that is really rough on me because I am giving her my all literally.
33 weeks: Lucy had the whole family visit our house for 3 days again and she LOVED the constant new people and play time. She was so sad when everyone left.
34 weeks: We are really struggling with Lucy reverting back to puppy hood and tearing up everything. But the thing is, she has never done that before. If left alone like at night, she tears the baseboards from the floor, the rugs up, the pillows up and her toys are obliterated. We literally had to get her cage back out and keep her in it for times she is in the house and not closely supervised like all night and when Cody is teaching from his office. It is so frustrating and sad. I think it all stims from not feeling good and not getting even more exercise I guess. I literally give her 1.5 hours before work, and 6 hours after work. I don't even stop to eat or change out of my work clothes, it's me and Lucy and that still isn't enough. I don't know what else to do. Pray for us.
35 weeks: This week we got Lucy's pictures with Santa at Bass Pro since Petsmart and Petco are LAME and cancelled this year. Lucy LOVED the adventure and LOVED Santa! We couldn't pull her away after the picture. She also loved getting lots of pets and treats while slipping around on the Bass Pro floor. For the picture I also couldn't believe that Lucy posed and smiled for the picture AND wore her Santa hat! AND this was her first attempt! SCORE!! This week we also took Lucy on her first real hike at the White Oak Mountains and she was a natural pulling Cody right along.
36 weeks: This week was Christmas and Lucy LOVED getting presents from Santa so much! I had Cody take her out in the morning and while they were out I put all of the presents out and when she came back in she went straight for her big lamb lamb! Then she proceeded to open every present ON HER OWN!!! She loved the treats, new toys, and do-dads that barked and moved on their own. She chased this one squirrel toy around for hours!!! Of course all of her toys only lasted about an hour each before she tore them to shreds but I was still happy. I just can't believe it was such a success! She had a ball! It's so much fun being a fur parent! Even Cody had fun watching her get so excited for each toy!
37 weeks: This week I have noticed Lucy isn't nearly as hyper as she usually is. It hasn't started this week but this is the week I have been noticing she has been a lot calmer lately. Like playing fetch in the yard. After 3-4 throws she is done for a while. Used to, I could play fetch with her for 2 hours and she was never tired. I have noticed I can never walk her far enough. After each walk she is genuinely upset the walk is over but it's cold and late lol. I have also noticed when she runs full speed or gently trots, her back left leg is stiff and she limps a little bit. I don't know if this is from a prior injury when she was a puppy, if she has a birth defect, or has just hurt it. I have always noticed it but have a LOT more lately. Oh and Lucy loves the holidays because there are so many visitors and Cody and I love on her and are home a bunch more.
38 weeks: We took the decorations down this week and Lucy did surprisingly well compared to 2+ months ago when I put everything out. Every week I see some sort of progress which is so encouraging. Lucy also celebrated her first New Years. She stayed up with us and we rang in the new year of Hope with her by our side. She didn't get any sparkling cider though lol. Lucy misses all of the family that has been visiting over the past month but it sadly has to come to an end. Also Cody's brother got a job in Iowa! So this is his last time seeing Lucy in a good while!
39 weeks: We have really started taking Lucy on fun hikes this week. She really enjoys the outdoors, unknown trails, squirrels, and meeting new people and dogs. She has gotten much more confident around other dogs since she has grown so much. Also Lucy got to meet her doggie friend Mose!! They really hit it off as Lucy LOVES other goldens so much!! It's like she knows she is one of them.
40 weeks: This weeks Lucy struggled. We unintentionally created separation anxiety problems for sweet Lucy. Cody and I have been home and working from home every day for about 2 months. When I started having to go back in after Christmas break or Cody or both of us, she started tearing up baseboards, toys, her bedding. She never did this as a young puppy but she got so upset when we would leave. We have had to keep her outside for longer periods of time to break her of this so when we got home, she stayed outside for another few hours despite her CONSTANT barking the whole time. It had to happen. Lucy really enjoyed zoom teaching with Cody when he was teaching from home the whole month of January. She became the class pet and sat right on the couch next to him in the office the whole time. The kids would ask to see her at the end of class and Cody would call her over and they would talk to her through the screen. Lucy loved it but could never find the kids lol.
41 weeks: This week was her first snow! February 1st! Last year it snowed on February 8th and I was so sad because that would mean Lucy wouldn't be able to see snow until she was about 3-4 years old or more because of how seldom it snows in Tennessee now. When I woke up this morning I was SO surprised and elated. I got all dressed and ran out with Lucy for her to experience her first snow. She absolutely loved it and took it with stride. She played and chased the snowflakes and snowballs. She hated me building snowmen and would immediately knock it down lol. She also hated me snowboarding. She couldn't figure out where I was going without her haha. I hope it snows again next year!!!
42 weeks: This week Lucy has finally calmed down and her separation anxiety is back to normal. She isn't freaking out when Cody and I leave, she doesn't bark but about 3 minutes when she is put outside and we are inside now. She doesn't panic when it's time to come home on our walk and she walks nicely. She listens a little better when we tell her to drop something she has run off with. She drops sleeves a lot easier now when she's naughty and grabs them. She came back downstairs after I yelled at her for going up on accident. I was able to clean the couch with baby wipes which I was never able to do before because she would tear them up in my hands.
43 weeks: So Lucy does this new thing where she makes me fetch lol! She throws the ball with her mouth and waits for me to get it LOL. I think she has me trained :D. This week Lucy got her first yeast infection in her left ear. From when we brought her home she has always had trouble with her left ear bothering her so finally the vet helped take care of it. So I'm not allowed to give her a bath for another 2 weeks which sucks because as you can see from the picture Lucy is wet, muddy, and filthy but I can't do anything about it. It has been 2 months since her last bath and I was literally about to bathe her when we had to take her to the vet. Luckily the medicine is helping and Lucy already feels so much bettter!
Week 44: Lucy has steadily improved with a lot of things. She doesn't jump as much, she isn't as much of a terror on walks, she minds better, is biting sleeves slightly slightly less, and she is a tad tad bit more calm. But with all of that being said, she still is a teenager/toddler and wants to do everything by herself. It's so so cute! For instance, she will take the leash out of my hand and hold the little loop and will lead herself around LOL. I love every stage and every second with this sweet girl. Lucy also likes to sing as shown above. She likes to be heard and will keep going until she is acknowledged. 😆
45 Weeks: Lucy went to the dog park for the first time this week! It was an actual dog park and no one else was there so Lucy got to explore in peace. She did so well, she climbed the seesaw, ramps, jumped the hurdles, and went through the poles all by herself on the first try! Proud dog mom! It was a dreary day so afterwards I took Lucy to the creek to swim in and she LOVED it! It was bath day so it was fair game.
Week 46: Lucy truly is an Air Bud in training. She is a PRO at soccer and basketball and actually dribbles the ball, and tries to shoot! It's epic! She's everything I could have ever dreamed of and so so perfect! I love my little athlete dog!
Week 47: Sweet Lucy girl had her first trip to Petsmart with us! She was a pro! She waltzed right in like she had been a million times, licked the little kids hands at the door and socialized with two of the calmer dogs giving them licks on their nose. She was so overwhelmed by all of the new sights, smells, people, and dogs, she didn't pay much attention to the toys we were needing to buy her. But we just went with our intuition and grabbed a few things we knew she might like. We will definitely be making more Petsmart runs with her in the future. She loved it so much!
Week 48: Our sweet Lucy girl surprisingly loves carrots. Her first time trying carrots were a little rocky as they were too slimy and crunchy to her. But once she warmed up, she was a pro! This week we also took her to the vet to get her nails clipped!! We are getting closer and closer to Lucy's birthday and these weekly letterboard updates will sadly come to an end. She pretty much stopped growing significantly about two or three months ago but I love doing this weekly with my sweet girl. And Cody is the one who takes the pictures! I bet you didn't know that! By now Lucy is a pro and sits so nicely on her own ready for the camera. She even smiles on her own now! We will do a 1.5 year letterboard pic and update and from there, just updates and letterboard pics every year for her birthday. Our sweet girl is growing up!
Week 49: Funny story for this week (and really the last few weeks). Every time at night when Cody and I either throw away trash or get the mail outside, Lucy comes with us. Now, she is pretty good at staying in our yard but every now and then she bolts to the neighbors front doors and tries to get in. It is hilarious! Her motion triggers their ring cameras to start recording and they get a nice little video of Lucy trying to get in their house. She has so much personality!
Week 50: Lucy had her first Easter egg hunt and loved it so much! She actually enjoyed finding the eggs hidden in the yard, loved learning pretty quickly that there were yummy treats inside for her, and even held her little basket. It was the cutest thing! Also notice Lucy is green, lol. She apparently loves rolling in fresh cut grass! Lucy is also becoming an actual dog. She rolls in dead stuff, finds dead animals and brings them to us, kicks up dirt after going potty, barks at dogs on the tv, and will hide her bone in the yard. These were not learned behaviors but instinctual. It's exciting but so sad to see her grow up so fast.
Week 51: Sweet Lucy girl LOVES licking paper/books. Like, she would do that all day if she could. She has this think for stick/wood so it must remind her of that. When Cody will be working at his office at night, he will turn around and his entire textbook is soaked. They have daily talks about how she can't lick his textbooks. Also Lucy has been improving on her walks, we have FINALLY gotten so much practice she mostly knows how to walk with me correctly.
Week 52: Her last letter board picture I am so sad but we will take one again at the 18 month mark and every year for her birthday. I have loved so much doing this weekly event, thank you for holding on with me, I am so so sad these weekly progress pictures will end. And 'no scarf mom, no more'.
Wow look at the difference!!
Lucy is one, time to celebrate!!!! We threw Lucy a huge birthday party with all of her doggie friends on April 17th 2021. Yes I understand this is 1,000% over the top but 1,000% worth it. With the miscarriage and everything that went so poorly last year, I just needed some joy and Lucy is my baby right now. She's my fur baby and has filled that hole in my heart.
Lucy's birthday post:
here My sweet sweet girl. I am so blessed to have you and so undeserving. She is my best friend, my buddy, my companion, and is the best dog I have ever known. She has changed my life. My only wish for her this birthday is that she knew how much she means to me and how much we love her. As much as I hate on the pandemic and covid and how it took so much away from me and all of us, it is the only reason we got Lucy. We lost our spot last minute when the other pregnant dog mom only gave birth to 2 dogs and not 13, and Lucy's litter had 8 puppies but all filled up, but 2 people who wanted a girl said covid made their finances tight and couldn't take a dog right now. As heartbreaking as that is, we got our Lucy and I had never been so happy. When we got the news about the miscarriage, it was only 1 day before we chose Lucy and brought her home. She is truly a gift from God and I will never take her for granted or get annoyed or frustrated with her.
So on that note, enjoy pics from her party and the décor!
'Mom gave me a bath the day before my party and I don't like'.
I decorated the kitchen, wrapped her presents, and put balloons on the mailbox. Mom also made little goodie bags for all of the dogs who came to visit, how cute!
I prepared dog friendly ice cream for the dog guests and decked Lucy's up. They ended up loving it so much!!
The hammock, tunnel, games/toys, to play with and water station for the dogs.
Lucy giving me a kiss after seeing the decorations and opening one of her presents.
Lucy's dog friends! I am so grateful they all showed up! My sisters dog and her husband came over, our neighbors and their two goldens came over, and my best friend Jordan and her golden came over.
They loved the kiddie pool. Lucy was so excited she didn't know what to do with herself. All of the dogs ran around the yard and played fetch together and just chased each other. Lucy was a little aggressive towards Mose which was weird because they were best friends before.
I took this picture on accident on selfie mode trying to capture a picture of Lucy and Mose but I wanted to post it because I look so happy. I am in my element and am loving all things about life right now!
Jordan was so sweet and got Lucy a present. Lucy loved opening it and getting her squeaky balls and treats.
On her actual birthday, 3 days after the party, we gave Lucy her happy birthday bone and wet food mixed in with her dry food! She can now do that and we also will stop feeding her lunch, we will brush her teeth, and I will start jogging with her now! Fun fun, Lucy is one! I also took Lucy on an extremely long walk and she loved every second. Peep my dog mom hat!!!
Lucy, queen of the rock!
My sweet baby girl, Lucy Cove Sunrise at Midnight Moana Raborn, here's to many many more birthday's in your future! I love you so so much, I am honored to be your owner and your mama!
P.S.- That is her AKC registered name lol
Lucy's gotcha day post:
here June 7th 2021
Lucy Cove Raborn is 18 months old!!! I am so happy my baby girl is a year and a half, now she can start settling down! All the experts say you start to notice a change at 18 months and that is perfect because we are pregnant!!! My plan was to get pregnant right when she turned 18 months when I would be so sick, and our baby would be born after she turned 2, the real age experts say dogs calm waaaay down. Perfect timing!!!
The best big sister!
friend and my adventure buddy!
I'm so glad you have chosen me as your designated human to love! We wanted
to have our first baby when she was 2 and it's worked out perfectly
. I cant wait to see her and baby boy create the
cutest bond
. Lucy is my buddy and always is extra sensitive when she knows I need a hug or I'm I'm sad or mad,
she'll know immediately and will bring me her favorite toy or will lay her head on me for as long as I need. It's quite
incredible. Lucy has the most precious quirks and is also the smartest dog I've ever met, she knows 10 words on her
recording buttons to push to communicate with us, she can close doors and cabinets on command (including laptops
while you are trying to work
), she knows the exact moment to steal your sandwich off the counter the second your
eyes divert away and your back turns, she can identify and specifically bring you up to 10 of her toys and she can
escape any crate or pen in a heartbeat. And two days before we drove 4 hours to pick her out of her litter (before we
could take her home 2 weeks later), we had our first ultrasound with our first pregnancy and we learned our baby's
heart had stopped beating. God put Lucy in our lives at the exact moment she was supposed to be with us. We were
so sad but still thrilled to meet our puppy. 4 weeks after we brought Lucy home and after many many complications,
I was rushed to have the d&c surgery and she helped me recover mentally and physically for the weeks and months
following. She truly is a blessing to us and I'm so grateful for her little life. She's my everything, my pride and joy
.
I try to include her in my life as much as possible and we just get each other. I love our picnics, hikes, and help just
doing every day chores around the house like sorting the laundry or being the extra set of hands to carry something
up the stairs. She's truly amazing and I can't wait for our kids to grow up with one of the best things life has to offer.
Every kid should be able to grow up with a dog. Now Lucy since you are 2 years old, the research says you will be
much calmer, but I know you
and I love your unending energy. I'm proud to be your dog mama and your dad and I
love you so much
!
We celebrated with a small party and specialized cake just for Lucy and we took her over to her friends house to play.
My beautiful Lucy is 3!!🥳🎂 My angel girl is 3, I can't hardly believe it! I remember driving you home for the first time, so tiny, sleeping in my lap, and here you are already 3. I've been looking forward to celebrating you all month! You are my best friend and are always by my side, it's an honor to be your favorite!
People think I'm joking when I say you are my biggest helper but it's true, you help me carry things up the stairs when I need an extra hand by me just asking you to go and grab something, you help me sort laundry and find missing socks, you locate Conner when he's crawled off, you love him like he's both of our child and that is the greatest feeling of all ❤️. It amazes me how intuitive and intelligent you are Lucy, you live to please and are as loyal as they come. You know when I'm upset and sit on my lap or around my neck to comfort me, and comfort Conner when he's screaming. When we are on walks, you show me the nearest trash can after I pick up your poop. When we get home from walks, you bring me to the mailbox right away and help me carry in the mail. You successfully communicate through 8 different words on little talk buttons. I can ask you to help mama upstairs and you run from the office and up the stairs and wait for me, and I love that we can watch movies together at night (even if you bark at every animal on the tv, cartoon or not lol)! The other day I was nursing Conner and I put him down on the floor when he was done, and you got up in our tiny little rocker and sat in my lap for your turn to be loved❤️.
God really sent you us in the midst of our world falling apart, and you saved us, our angel! My main goal in life is for you to know how incredibly loved you are. This last year has been a major adjustment for you, Lucy, and I pray you never feel left out. You live a short life compared to us humans but my utmost responsibility is to make sure every day you feel involved, loved, and have absolutely the best time because that is what your days consist of during your short time here on earth. And that's what you love most and what your days are all about here. I will live every day giving you one of your best. You have helped me more ways than I could ever do for you. I will forever be grateful for you Lucy Cove, cheers to 3 years.
On the way home from playing in the creek, her favorite activity!!
After opening presents!
Lucy Cove turning 4!! . I'm so proud of her. Every year is monumental for dogs. I couldn't imagine life without Lucy, she has filled our days with such unique insight and joy. She's so in tune with me, she's my little buddy. When she came to me she was my light in the dark, she always knows how I feel and what to do to comfort me. Lucy is very intuitive and knows just what each family member needs, Conner's best friend, playmate, and first sibling. Cody's rough housing buddy and someone who gets to be disclipined by, and lastly but most importantly, my little shadow and best friend. My biggest helper. She's my cuddle bug, my tear wiper, someone who says so much to me without being able to say a word. She's my biggest companion, my walking buddy, my movie watcher, and tennis ball throwing buddy. Someone to help me calm Conner when I'm putting his braces on. Lucy thrives the best being right with us going along for the adventure, folding right into exactly what we're doing. She doesn't understand she's different than us. I can tell her just about anything and she understands. Lucy wants to play all the time giving us energy, and she loves to drink running water from the bathtub, the best part of her day is when she sees us in the morning or when we get home from work/events. We are her whole world and she is ours. She loves to help me with my chores so I feel less alone and sorts the socks. She brings me Conner's blanket and toys when I can't find them and most importantly she loves Conner because he's mine. When we brought him home he's been her biggest adjustment and she doesn't mind. Boy I love my Lucy. Here's to 4 years young! Born 4 years ago 4/20/20 at 15.5oz 7:17am, 5th born of 8. Lucy will forever be my daughter
With so much love,
Kayla and Cody Raborn
